THE PRISON OF THE PAST
Everyone has emotions and virtually all have been through some kind of disappointment and pain, at a point in time. Some times, we wish we didn’t do what we did. Other times, we think things could have been better only if some things had not happen—or if I never met this person, or that person. True is the fact that it hurts. I know it does.
Interestingly, life goes on. It just keeps moving, and before we realize, whatever happened has gone with time! We only get to change few things if at all we have the chance to. The past remains in the past. However, sadly, we tend to stay with it for too long. So, we stand still, waiting for the future to happen.
The memories of the past may hold us captive. Not because they want to, but because we hold on to them. Being in the prison of a past looks likes it’s the end of the world because nothing else matters again. So, we think better days are behind and we dearly long for them. Depression and the terrible feeling of obsession may creep in—but, it’s okay. We can be free!
When the shadow of an ugly past keeps haunting, don’t keep running away. You’ve run enough. Decide to stop running, so you won’t have to keep running for the rest of your life. Express your pain; cry, if needful or talk to someone. Gather the courage to reconcile with your past; learn from the mistakes and forgive yourself. Let it go.
Don’t think the past is all there is to your life. Don’t give up on yourself–you are not dead yet. You can still dream big and become more, regardless of whatever the past has to say. Rise up, walk out of the prison of your past and joyfully build your future. It’s never too late.
